Traceability (trazabilidad in Spanish) means the complete information for each one of the steps on a process chain.
In logistics, traceability refers to the ability to trace goods along the distribution chain. A familiar example is the tracing of letters or parcels sent through a courier.
In the automotive industry traceability allows withdrawing from the market just the defective vehicles or parts, without affecting the remaining ones.
In the food industry, by allowing the final consumer final access to the information on every step in the product elaboration and distribution processes, traceability contributes to food security. Here also traceability allows withdrawing just the defective lots without interfering with the remaining products arriving to the supermarket shelves.
Traceability of fixed assets allows tracing and monitoring them within the enterprise.
